Expiredتخصص علم الوراثة والأحياء الجزيئية تخصص قائم بذاته في قسم العلوم الطبيعية في كُلْيَة القدس بارد والذي يهدف إلى إعداد الطلاب وتمكينهم من الحصول على قاعدة معرفية شاملة عن الخلية والأحياء الجزيئية وعلم الوراثة وأيضا التكنولوجيا الحيوية.
وتتسم مهنة علم الوراثة الجزيئية بالتنوع، مع وجود فرص وظيفية في الصناعات ومؤسسات الرعاية الصحية كباحثين في التكنولوجيا الحيوية وتقنيين بيولوجيين في المختبرات الطبية، ولا سيما الطب الشرعي ودوره في التحاليل الجنائية. يتميز هذا البرنامَج عن غيره من برامج علم الأحياء بحيث أنه يركز على أسس علم الأحياء التجريبي الحديث. كما أن البرنامَج يضع الطلاب في بيئة تعليمية لا تقتصر على الإنغماس في العلوم فقط، بل الانخراط في مجالات أخرى مثل العلوم الاجتماعية والعلوم الإنسانية والفنون إذ أن العلم لا يمكن تجزئته وفصله عن الاقتصاد أو السياسة أو حتى الأدب والفن.
كما يركز برنامَج علم الوراثة الجزئية على القراءة النقدية والتفكير والكتابة المتقنة، وهذا من شأنه أن يسمح للطلاب بالمشاركة في ميادين أخرى وترشيحهم للعمل بشكل أفضل في فلسطين والخارج. آخذين بعين الاعتبار بأن البرنامج يدرس بشكل كامل باللغة الانجليزية، حاذيا حذو البرامج العلمية في كلية بارد في نيويورك، وبالتالي يَمكن الخريجين من متابعة دراساتهم العلمية بالخارج وخصوصاً الولايات المتحدة وكندا. وبالتالي يكتسب الخريج مهارات أكاديمية وخبرة في البحث علمي تجعل منه منافساً قوياً للحصول على قبول في جامعات دولية. و بالإضافة الى أن اللغة الإنجليزية تعتبر لغة العلم بالعالم أجمع، فإن ذلك يؤدي إلى إلمام كبير بعلم الأحياء الجزيئية. حيث أن اللغة الإنجليزية تشكل تحديا رئيسيا للباحثين من مختلف دول العالم التي لا تعتمد الإنجليزية كلغة للتخصص وبالتالي يعاني هؤلاء الباحثين والخريجين من شح الموارد المالية والفرص، وقلة في نشر البحوث العلمية.
وتعتمد الكلية في تدريسها للبرنامَج باتباع نهج ليبرالي علمي يركز على الطالب كمحور للعملية التعليمية التعلّمية حيث لا يتلقى الطالب محاضرات على الدوام، ولكن يفتح له المجال للمشاركة الكاملة في عملية التعلم عن طريق التمارين الصفية، والقراءات، واستعراض المؤلفات العلمية من وجهات نظر مختلفة، والمعارض، والمشاركة الشاملة في المناقشات والمؤتمرات العلمية محلياً ودولياً.
ويتوقع من خريجي هذا البرنامج الوحيد من نوعه في فلسطين، أن يكون خريجوه قادرين على المنافسة بشكل جيد في سوق العمل والحصول على فرص غير محدودة. كما أن مهارات التواصل القوية لدى خريجي هذا البرنامج تجعل منهم قادرين على التسويق أنفسهم بشكل كبير في القطاعات التي تركز على مواضيع ذات الصلة بالعلوم مثل:

مجال التكنولوجيا الحيوية: حيث قد يعمل الخريجين في مجال الهندسة الوراثية، ومجال تطوير المستحضرات الصيدلانية، ومجال التكنولوجيا الطبية والزراعية.

مجال الطب الشرعي وعلم الأحياء الجزيئية: حيث إن الخريجين قد يعالجون الأدلة التي يمكن استخدامها في البحث الجنائي.

MOLECULAR GENETICS PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Molecular Genetics program in the Natural Science Division at Al Quds Bard (AQB) will prepare students to have a comprehensive knowledge base of the cell, molecular biology and genetics as well as biotechnology. The Molecular Genetics profession is amazingly diverse, with career opportunities in industries, health care institutions as biotechnologists and biological technicians, and in forensic laboratories. This program differs from any regular biology program in that it is focused on the foundations of modern experimental biology. This program places students in a liberal arts college environment where students are expected to not only immerse themselves in sciences, but engage in other fields such as social sciences, humanities and arts, this makes students better scientists as science cannot be separated from economics or politics or even literature. Scientific research is heavily impacted by economic factors and scientists who have a grasp on such subjects can ultimately lead more successful organizations.
The Molecular Genetics program also focuses on critical reading, thinking, and proficient writing; this will allow students to engage in other fields making them better job candidates in Palestine and abroad, also more attractive graduate students to jobs. The program is taught in English, the universal science language, this lead to highly proficient molecular biologists who can communicate well and can produce well written scientific papers and proposals which is a major challenge for international scientists who struggle with depleted funds and less publications.
The program is also taught with a student centered approach, students are not lectured all the time, but instead are expected to fully participate in the learning process through class exercises, readings, scientific literature reviews, presentations and overall discussion participation.
Our graduates should be able to compete well in the job market for unlimited job opportunities. Our graduates' strong communication skills also make them highly marketable with organizations focusing on science related topics such as in industries and health care institutions as:
Molecular Biology and Genetics Laboratory Specialists: diagnosing genetics, cancer and viral diseases.
Biotechnology: graduates may work in genetic engineering, pharmaceutical development, and medical technologies.
Forensic Science and Molecular Biology: graduates may process evidence that could be used to solve crimes.
National and Global Health Specialists.
Bioinformatics: graduates may apply mathematical techniques to solve biological problems such as gene sequencing.
Students graduating with a degree in Molecular Genetics are competitive applicants for Ph.D., M.S., in basic sciences as well as applied sciences schools. Program graduates may pursue more specialized master’s degree such as genetic counseling, forensic sciences or biotechnology. Also there are many other careers for students who want to combine their scientific training with interests in other fields.
