Education in Palestine: Between facing the challenges and being resilient

Education in Palestine: Between facing the challenges and being resilient

“For teachers and students, continuing education during periods of conflict and instability can mean beginning each day with uncertainty, checking whether roads and military checkpoints are open, wondering whether classes will continue, and adapting to sudden closures and interruptions.

As a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) alumna and school science teacher, these challenges have become part of my daily reality of teaching. School closures and disrupted classes affect more than academic progress; they also leave psychological effects on my students and other fellow teachers. When education suddenly moves online due to the political reality of Palestine, teachers like me must adapt lessons and materials, while students may struggle to concentrate and learn. Many of my students lack a suitable space or the support they need at home; some do not have stable internet connections, or they share an old smartphone that is worn out due to heavy daily use.

And alongside these challenges come difficult questions: Will I be able to complete the school year? Will the education process stop again? Do my students have the right to learn when so many other students have been deprived of their schools?

Yet, education continues at my school.

For me, as a science teacher, continuing to teach is a responsibility and an act of steadfastness. For students, continuing to learn is a source of hope and a way to keep dreaming about their future.

Education is not only about classrooms and lessons. It is about creating a safe space where teachers can teach, students can learn, and communities can continue to believe that life and hope can move forward."
