ِAQB Students Express Themselves In A Moving Art Exhibition at Georgetown University - Qatar

Doha, Qatar.

On March 26, 2025, four students from Al Quds Bard College showcased their personal journeys and academic growth through a moving exhibition at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). Ala Abhari, Abdelrahman Meki, Majd Johar, and Shatha Al-Sabbah worked on an exhibition titled "Gaza Remains.” The exhibition highlighted the resilience, hope, and challenges these students face as they pursue their studies in Qatar during the holy month of Ramadan. This exhibition was attended by many important figures such as, Mr. Hani Shehadeh, from Al-Fakhoora Program, Education Above All, as well as Dr. Diana Buttu who is a Palestinian lawyer, who is also a lecturer at Georgetown University, Doha.

The exhibition was made possible through a partnership between Qatar Foundation, Education Above All, and Georgetown University in Qatar, which provides scholarships enabling these students to study at GU-Q while continuing their education at Al Quds Bard College. Additionally, the students have gained hands-on experience through internships at Qatar Museums.

As Ramadan unfolded, the students took time to reflect on their experiences in Qatar and shared their stories of navigating life in a new environment. The exhibition offered a glimpse into their personal journeys, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of living and studying far from home.

One of the participating students, Shatha Alsabbah, a third-year Molecular Genetics student from Bethlehem, shared: “The first couple of weeks were mentally challenging for me because I was away from my family, something I'm not used to. However, the accessibility and ease of everything here, which is quite different from the circumstances in Palestine, helped me adjust to this new environment”

Abdelrahman Meki, a junior from Jerusalem studying Social Thoughts, Economics, and Policy, also reflected on his journey. “This is my first time experiencing Ramadan in different circumstances, but being here in a community that feels welcoming and vibrant, makes me feel that I am in a place where my academic and personal journey is deeply nurtured.”

The exhibition provided the public with an opportunity to engage with the stories of these remarkable students, who embody the strength and resilience of the Palestinian people. It also shed light on the broader impact that educational opportunities in Qatar can have on Palestinian students and their futures.
