Saba Banat Hones Her Research Skills While Interning at the Palestine Institution for Biodiversity and Sustainability
Saba Banat is a student in the International Law and Human Rights program at AQB. She shares her experience as an intern at the Palestinian Institution for Biodiversity and Sustainability, she reflects:
As a Human Rights student at AQB, I chose to intern with the Palestinian Institution for Biodiversity and Sustainability (PIBS) in Bethlehem. This experience has provided a valuable learning experience, allowing me to develop skills in human rights advocacy, environmental advocacy, and research. Working alongside Dr. Mazin Qumsieh (the head of PIBS), a well-known advocate for Palestinian Human Rights, has deepened my understanding of the humanitarian and environmental issues facing Palestine. Co-authoring a research paper with Professor Mazin on the destruction of higher education in Palestine expanded my research skills. Moreover, it enabled me to explore concepts like scholasticide and educide in the context of the Gaza Strip. Also, I had the chance to develop my advocacy and communication skills through the activities and connections PIBS has. I believe that the internship strengthened my academic and research capabilities while also raising awareness about the humanitarian, environmental, and educational challenges faced by Palestinians.
AQB Social Science Division has been eager to place students in appropriate work placements and internships that match students' skills, passions, and interests. The College through its different divisions has been working to expand the practical training for senior students and ensure successful experience through its multi-evaluation tools.
