POLITICAL SCIENCE PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Political Science Program at Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences welcomes students who care about politics and want to reason critically about political outcomes and debates at the local, national, and international levels. The program intends to inform responsible participation in Middle Eastern and global public affairs. It also prepares students for work and/or further study in political science, international affairs, public policy, law, cultural studies, and related fields.
The Political Science Program at AQB offers a wide range of courses in political theory, international relations, comparative politics, public administration, history, philosophy, quantitative research methods, and Middle Eastern politics.
POLITICAL SCIENCE PROGRAM MISSION
The mission of the program is the same as the mission of AQB: to provide a liberal arts education that promotes critical thinking, effective writing, and a spirit of independent inquiry, through a process of active student-centered learning. The program also has the mission of teaching political science at the undergraduate level, in English, in a way that produces graduates who are good writers, researchers, and thinkers.
THE PRINCIPAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM
01 That students gain a historical perspective on the evolution of political systems and political thought.
02 That students become more aware of their political surrounding, that they think creatively about political problems and solutions by using comparative approaches, data analysis, and field research.
03 That students engage in an inter-disciplinary study of politics.
04 That students learn to read scholarly articles and books, as well as to write clearly and accurately about political issues.
